He was involved in six touchdowns to lead the Warriors past Southington, 48-30.
SOUTHINGTON – Brookfield quarterback Matt Palumbo ran for five touchdowns and also passed for a six-point score in a 48-30 win over Southington Friday night.
Brookfield started the scoring early when Palumbo ran for a 50-yard touchdown with 11:02 left in the first quarter. Palumbo finished the night going 6-7 for 88 yards with no interceptions and the score. He added another 333 yards on the ground on 23 carries. Denny Sulick scored a touchdown and had 85 yards rushing for the Warriors.
Southington got on the board in the first quarter on a fake punt which led to a touchdown run by Derrick Casper. Quarterback Brad Sherwood completed 8 of 18 passes for 65 yards with a touchdwn and two interceptions. Teammate Jimmy Rasey scored twice and had 192 yards on 35 carries.
LaBrae 42, Campbell Memorial 0
CAMPBELL — Cameron Truss ran for 162 yards and three touchdowns as LaBrae (4-1, 2-0) shut out Campbell Memorial in an All-American Conference Blue Tier league game at John Knapick Field.
Truss, who scored on runs of 3, 73 and 59 yards, carried just 10 times in the game while a stingy LaBrae defense held Memorial (1-4, 0-2) to just 149 yards offensively; all but 16 coming through the air.
The Red Devils’ Lester Hughes connected on 16-of-26 tosses for 133 yards, but suffered two interceptions.
Steubenville 42, Beaver Local 7
LISBON — Demetrius Brandon and Branko Busick each scored two touchdowns to lead Steubenville (5-0).
Brandon tallied on runs of of 50 and 4 yards and finished with 116 yards rushing in 12 attempts.
Busick scored from the 18 and 6 and wound up with 83 yards in 12 carries.
Dwight Macon rushed for 116 yards in 10 attempts, including a 2-yard TD dash, and also was 11-for-19 passing for 126 yards to also pace Big Red.
Brandon Bussard scored for Beaver Local (1-4) on a 5-yard run.
Canfield 31, Struthers 0
STRUTHERS — The Cardinals evened their season record (2-2) as Kyle Vaclav rushed for 54 yards on six carries scoring touchdowns of 25 yards in the first quarter and 20 yards in the second period. The Wildcats (0-4) managed only 46 yards rushing and they failed to complete a pass.
Liberty 42, Salem 7
LIBERTY — Fitzgerald Toussaint keeps making the extraordinary seem ordinary.
The University of Michigan recruit rushed 13 times for 246 yards and four TDs to lift Liberty (5-0, 2-0 AAC White), which rolled up 427 yards on the ground.
Antonio Kinard and Ryan Pennington also ran for TDs as the Leopards scored more than 40 points for the fourth time this season.
Phil Bennett scored on a 38-yard pass from Trent Toothman for Salem (0-5, 0-2).
Warren JFK 62, Newton Falls 6
WARREN — Jim Coates scored two TDs and seven other players got into the end zone as JFK (1-4) snapped its four-game skid in a big way.
Mitch Czemiak scored for Newton Falls (2-2), which scored the game’s first points and was shut out the rest of the way.
