Brookfield gets first victory; Hubbard rolls, 43-12
CAMPBELL — Mack O’Brien rushed for 175 yards on 21 carries Friday to lead the Brookfield High football team to a 22-19 victory over Campbell.
O’Brien’s efforts included touchdown runs of 35 and 15 yards in leading the Warriors (1-3) to victory.
Lester Hughes tallied on run of 20 and 1 yards for the Red Devils (1-3).
He also connected on 11 of 16 passes for 103 yards. Darrio Bivens gained 61 yards on 10 tries.
Hubbard 43, Salem 12
HUBBARD — The Eagles scored early and often as they cruised. Hubbard quarterback Matt Shelton had a pair of touchdown passes in the first quarter. Shelton connect with Sam Bellino on a 15-yard score and threw a 28-yard pass to Bobby Thompson.
Shelton finished 7-13 for 138 yards and the two scores. Running back Andre Givens added another 131 yards on the ground and scored three times.
Salem scored on a 17-yard touchdown pass from Trent Toothman to Gino Pasquineloi. Toothman finished 10-21 for 111 yards with three interceptions. Eric Bailey was the leading rusher for the Quakers, gaining 56 yards on 19 carries.
Girard 41, Newton Falls 6
GIRARD — Senior Kyle Stadelmyer scored three times and gained 194 yards on 18 carries for the unbeaten Indians (4-0).
Stadelmyer now has 617 yards in four games. In the AAC Blue Tier opener, Girard out-rushed the Tigers, 282-83.
Tallen Birmingham added two scores, one on a 23-yard pass from Dan Graziano and another on a 3-yard run following Landon Smith’s block of a Newton Falls punt with less than a minute remaining in the game. Graziano also scored via run. Ryan Kirkpatrick made five PATs for the winners.
Anthony Kline had the lone TD for Newton Falls (2-1, 0-1), which lost all six of its fumbles.
Newton Falls quarterback Brian Sole completed 10 of 18 passes for 85 yards, while Eric Kline had 46 yards on nine carries and one catch for 20 yards.
Niles 13, Beaver Local 0
LISBON — Nick Liste scored on a 40-yard run and kicked a 44-yard field goal for the Red Dragons (2-2, 2-2 AAC Red).
Reggie Wells returned a punt for 49 yards in the fourth quarter. Liste extra-point kick completed the scoring.
The Beavers’ (1-3, 0-2) Brandon Bussard rushed 19 times for 70 yards, while Zak Stanton gained 56 yards on nine attempts for Niles.
LaBrae 38, Champion 8
CHAMPION — Cameron Truss rushed for 227 yards and three touchdowns as LaBrae (2-1, 1-0 All-American Conference) rolled past Champion.
Truss scored on runs of 62, 62 and 48 yards, while Jordan Miller and Jamel Keeney each added touchdowns for the Vikings.
Champion (2-2, 0-1) scored its only touchdown in the second quarter on a 33-yard pass from Shane Brown to Cody Cage.
LaBrae totaled 385 yards, 367 of them on the ground, while holding Champion to just 20 yards rushing and 76 total yards.
