ITCL: Crestview Rebels defeat Springfield Tigers 41-7

The brothers led the Rebels to a 41-7 rout over Springfield.

NEW MIDDLETOWN — The Springfield Tigers had quite a Hill to climb if they hoped to upset the Crestview Rebels Friday night.

Two Hills actually.

Brothers Corey and Carter Hill led Crestview to an impressive 41-7 win over the Tigers as the Rebels’ duo rushed for over 200 yards and scored two touchdowns apiece.

Crestview (8-1, 5-1) stayed tied atop the Inter Tri-County League Tier One standings along with South Range heading into next weeks regular season finale with United.

“Both Hill brothers are great athletes,” said Springfield coach Sean Guerriero. “They are great weapons on a great football team.

“We dug ourselves an early hole and we aren’t that kind of football team that can fight back when we’re down.”

The Tigers hadn’t got their offense on the field yet when they found themselves down 14-0.

Senior Corey Hill led the Rebels on the team’s opening drive and capped off the drive with a 20-yard touchdown run.

Sophomore quarterback Carter Hill, who was returning to action following an injury that forced him to miss two games, scored minutes later following a fumble by Springfield on the ensuing kickoff.

Tom Marnejon recovered the fumble at the Springfield 15 and five plays later, Carter Hill scored on a 2-yard run. The younger Hill also ran for the two-point conversion for a 14-0 lead.

“That gave us a lot of confidence,” said Corey Hill about the early lead. “It showed the offensive line that all their hard work paid off as we ran the ball pretty well early and all night long.

“Running the football has been our strength all season.”

Corey Hill finished the night with 168 yards rushing on 23 carries. He also scored on a 57-yard run midway through the third quarter.

“We believe we can run the football,” said Crestview coach Paul Cusick. “Getting Carter back this week kind of cemented what we were able to get done tonight.

“This team has great senior leadership and that showed on both sides of the ball tonight.”

As great as the Hill brothers efforts on offense were, Crestview’s defense was equally as dominant.

The Rebels held Springfield (4-5, 1-5) to just 91 yards rushing on 34 carries and intercepted Tiger quarterback Matt Evans two times.

After Crestview opened up a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, the Rebels tallied twice more in the second period.

Carter Hill connected with Jakob Leon on a 45-yard pass play for one score and Adam Britton tallied with just 55 seconds left in the half on a 2-yard run.

Carter Hill, who threw for 85 yards on 5-of-11 passing, tallied the team’s final touchdown on a 28-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Evans finally got the Tigers on the board late in the game on a 5-yard touchdown run.
