YOUNGSTOWN CHRISTIAN: Youngstown Christian in playoff position
The Eagles are in the No. 8 spot in the latest Div. VI, Region 21 computer ratings.
STAFF REPORT
Youngstown Christian has positioned itself for the first playoff berth in the program’s history.
The Eagles (6-2) jumped into the No. 8 spot in Division VI, Region 21, following their 28-14 win over Southington last weekend.
Youngstown Christian has games remaining against Ledgemont (3-5) and Pymatuning Valley (4-4), and must win both to have a chance at the playoffs.
Six other area teams are in contention for postseason berths in Region 21.
McDonald is No. 4, followed by Leetonia — which jumped up two places after beating Western Reserve — which is No. 6; Columbiana, YCS, Springfield and Wellsville.
Seventeen area schools are in the top 10 of their region in this week’s ratings.
Ursuline remained No. 1 in Div. V, Region 17, while Cardinal Mooney moved up one spot to third in Div. IV, Region 13. Those teams collide Friday night.
Also in Div. IV, Girard is unbeaten but not in the top 10 in Region 13. The Indians, unofficially at No. 11, finish with LaBrae (7-1) and Liberty (8-0) and could pick up enough points by winning both games to qualify for the postseason.
Also in Div. V, Crestview moved up one spot to No. 4 and South Range stayed at No. 6.
Liberty remained No. 3 in Div. III, Region 9 after defeating Hubbard, which slipped one position to No. 6. Also in Div. III, Lakeview is No. 8 in Region 9 and Poland slipped three spots to No. 5 in Region 11.
In Div. II, Howland moved up one spot to No. 6 in Region 5. and Canfield moved into the top 10, at No. 7, in Region 7.
The top eight teams in each region qualify for the playoffs. First-round games, scheduled for Oct. 31-Nov. 1, will be played at home sites, with the next three weekends at neutral sites.
The state championship games are scheduled for Nov. 28-29 in Stark County.
