CANFIELD: Canfield Cardinals defeat Chaney Cowboys 38-0

By Greg Gulas

Chaney’s Myke Parker had 51 yards rushing, but the Cowboys managed just 115 totally in a 38-0 defeat.

CANFIELD — Kyle Vaclav and Blake Jackson each rushed for two touchdowns and Canfield rolled up 393 offensive yards as the Cardinals blanked the Chaney Cowboys, 38-0 in a non-league contest Friday at Canfield Stadium.

“The final score was not indicative of the type of game that was played here tonight. This was a physical game with both teams just going at each other all night,” Canfield coach Mike Pavlansky said.

“We had some injuries and were a little beat up, so in the second half we got a chance to rest those players and that was important. I was pleased with our overall effort on both sides of the ball. It was a solid, all-around effort,” he added.

Vaclav got the Cardinals on the board first with a 4-yard scamper at the 9:51 mark of the opening period.

He then added a 55-yard touchdown scamper a little over five minutes later, and when Jackson scored the first of his two touchdowns with 51 seconds remaining in the opening frame, the Cardinals had built a 21-0 margin.

Pavlansky was just happy to see Vaclav run so aggressively the entire night.

“Kyle is a good player who can hurt you at any time, most especially when he gets into the secondary. We just had a great overall effort offensively,” Pavlansky added.

Vaclav was just happy to find an opening when carrying the football.

“The holes were everywhere for us all night. Our offensive line just did their job the entire game and so did we.

“I’d have to say that this was our best overall effort as a team this season,” Vaclav said.

After a scoreless second quarter, Cardinal placekicker Billy Fisher nailed a field goal from 23 yards (6:33) to give Canfield a 24-0 lead with just 12 minutes remaining.

Jackson’s tally from a yard out just three seconds into the final frame, his second score of the evening, made it 31-0 in favor of the Cardinals (6-2) and Luke Franken’s 13 yard scamper at the 8:58 mark rounded out the scoring.

Vaclav had a game high 90 yards on the ground while Jon Rogers and Franken added 67 and 65 yards respectively to pace the Cardinals’ ground attack.

Canfield quarterback Adam Muth was 6-of-14 for 86 yards with Vaclav his favorite target, catching two for 38 yards.

Myke Parker led the Cowboys (2-6) with 51 yards rushing while Chaney could manage just 19 yards passing and 115 total offensive yards.

The Cardinals held a 19-7 first down advantage with Chaney losing all three of their fumbles, and Canfield just one of their three miscues.
