CANTON — Ursuline High held Canton Central Catholic to 79 total yards, and the unbeaten and top-ranked Fighting Irish defeated the Crusaders, 42-7, in a non-league game Friday night at Lowell Klinefelter Field.
Nico Irizarry and Allen Jones both ran for 85 yards and a touchdown to lead Ursuline (7-0), which ran for 294 yards as a team.
Jones also scored on a 23-yard pass from Paul Kempe, and Jeff Podolsky ran for a score.
Dale Peterman returned a punt 65 yards for a score and Matt Krause returned an interception 6 yards for another Irish touchdown.
Marc Davide scored Central’s (1-6) only touchdown on a 3-yard run in the fourth quarter. He led Central with 52 yards on 19 carries.
Chaney 20, Niles 3
NILES — Myke Parker rushed for 152 yards, including an 80-yard touchdown sprint in the third quarter, to lead the Cowboys over the Red Dragons.
Parker’s TD closed the scoring, after Anthony Strong accounted for both Chaney (2-5) touchdowns in the second quarter.
Strong ran in from 11 yards to give the Cowboys a 7-3 lead with 9:55 remaining, then hit Anthony Cromwell for a 33-yard scoring pass with 24 seconds to go before halftime that made it 14-3.
Chaney rushed for 261 yards and had 313 total.
Niles’ only points came on a 33-yard field goal by Nick Liste with 4:22 remaining in the first quarter.
The Red Dragons (2-5) were held to 182 total yards. Zak Stanton rushed for 77 yards on 14 carries.
West Branch 20, Minerva 19
MINERVA — Mike Smith completed 12 of 22 passes for 124 yards, a touchdown and an interception and West Branch snapped a three-game losing streak in the Northeastern Buckeye Conference game.
Eric Bates caught five passes for 56 yards, while Chad Butcher added 36 yards on three catches with a TD for the Warriors (4-3, 1-3).
Eric Rogel rushed 16 times for 142 yards and Bates carried nine times for 80 yards and two scores. Cody King had seven tackles and pressured Troy Summers into an incomplete pass on Minerva’s two-point conversion attempt with 1:52 remaining to seal the victory.
Summers had 188 yards on 18 carries with two TDs to lead Minerva (4-3, 1-3).
Warren JFK 36, St. Thomas Aquinas 21
ALLIANCE — Dominic LaPolla threw for two touchdowns — both to Nick Brown — and ran for another as JFK (2-5) rolled up a 36-7 lead en route to victory.
The Eagles picked off four passes.
Steve Foltz carried 19 times for 45 yards for Aquinas (2-5).
Southeast 20, Coventry 7
AKRON — Anthony Pennington rushed for two touchdowns to lead Southeast (2-5, 2-2) to a Portage trail Conference Metro Division victory.
Coventry dropped to 2-5, 2-2.
Oak Glen 26, East Liverpool 20
