Senior QB Aunre Davis led the attack as the Raiders won their second game.

WARREN — Nine different players scored touchdowns for Harding High as the Raiders rolled to a 63-0 triumph Friday night over Chaney at Mollenkopf Stadium.

Senior quarterback Aunre Davis sparked the Harding (2-0) attack, connecting on 13 of 15 passes for 219 yards, including scoring tosses of 51 and 59 yards. He also ran for 73 yards, including a 38-yard scoring scamper.

“We felt Chaney was a good football team. We saw them last week against Austintown Fitch and it was close at the half,” Harding coach D.J. Dota said. “Our guys came out ready to play and they executed at a high level. We did see improvement from our two scrimmages and our week one game, and our guys played their A game tonight. That’s what we knew we needed to get a victory.”

Chaney (0-2) started the game quickly, getting first downs on its first three plays from scrimmage and taking the ball to the Harding 22. The drive stalled, though, and Harding took over at its 21. The Cowboys recorded just two more first downs until the final quarter.

Five plays after taking over, Davis connected on a 51-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Owens. The pass was nearly intercepted, but it bounced off the hands of a Chaney defender to Owens who took it to the end zone with 6:30 remaining in the first quarter.

Chaney punted on its next possession and it took Harding just two plays to score as Davis raced in from 38 yards out.

Eric Welke recovered a Cowboy fumble on the ensuing kickoff, and two plays later Jerralle Butts scored from 11 yards out for a 20-0 lead with 4:01 to play in the quarter.

The Raiders put the game away with a 16-play, 69-yard scoring drive which ate up about seven minutes. Ben Penman’s 1-yard scoring plunge on fourth down made the score 26-0 with 6:51 remaining in the half.

“We’re going to take what a defense gives us,” Dota said about the Raiders‘ versatile offense. “If it’s first down to first down to first down, or if it’s big plays, we’ll take what defenses give us.”

Davis closed the first-half scoring with a 69-yard scoring strike to DeAver Williamson in the final minute of the half. Williamson caught four passes for 90 yards.

Harding got second-half scoring runs from Kyree Flowers, Demond Hymes, Andrew Bowers and Kaylor Brown.

“We feel pretty comfortable in the way our guys have understood our offense and defense, and the way we’re executing,” Dota said. “We’ve got to make sure that we continue to do that each week. Our focus has to be on getting better week to week.”

Myke Parker passed for 110 yards for the Cowboys and rushed for 46. Breondrea Bunch gained 52 yards on eight carries on the final possession of the game, which ended up just 1 yard short of a Chaney touchdown.
