ROOTSTOWN: Jackson-Milton Blue Jays beat Rootstown Rovers 20-14
ROOTSTOWN — The Jackson-Milton High football team is 2-0 for the first time in 21 years.
Wilbur Wilson scored touchdowns on runs of 7 and 3 yards and rushed for 160 yards in 20 carries to lead the Bluejays to a 20-14 win over Rootstown (0-2) Friday night.
Wilson also added a conversion run following Ben Carlile’s 3-yard TD dash.
Frank Arroyo caught three passes for 117 yards while Reggie Johnson had three catches for 60 yards.
Tyler Williams scored first on a 10-yard run followed by Eric Lewis’ 44-yard TD pass to John Park with 6:00 left in the game, before J-M’s defense braced to save the win.
Western Reserve 49, Newcomerstown 0
NEWCOMERSTOWN — Shane Ewing threw two touchdown passes to Clayton Hull and Ewing also ran for another score.
Bobby Banks scored twice for the Blue Devils (2-0).
Ewing’s TD passes to Hull covered 57 and 7 yards and Ewing finished with 233 yards in the air on 11-for-16 with no interceptions. Ewing’s TD run covered 11 yards.
Banks’ scores came from the 6- and 4-yard lines, while Hull had 15 catches for 174 yards.
Paul Arditi led the rushing attack with 136 yards in 16 carries, including a 9-yard scoring dash.
Justin Lude also tallied for the winners on a 50-yard punt return.
Mineral Ridge 33, Grand Valley 6
MINERAL RIDGE — Daniel Skiba rushed 15 times for 105 yards and a touchdown and completed 3 of 6 passes for 129 yards and two more TDs to lead Mineral Ridge.
Kyle Skiba rushed 23 times for 119 yards and a touchdown for the Rams (1-1). Mike Dominic caught two passes for 121 yards, with both going for TDs.
Anthony Oscar completed 13 of 34 passes for 171 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions for Grand Valley (0-2).
Southern 48, Lisbon 0
LISBON — Dylan Puckett ran for three touchdowns and Nathan Melhorn added two TD runs in Southern’s rout.
Melhorn gained 194 of the Indians’ 345 on the ground. Brian Brinker added 70 yards on 12 carries. Mike McVay completed 7 of 10 passes for 69 yards.
United 29, Salem 0
HANOVERTON — The Eagles (1-1) scored in every quarter and amassed 264 rushing yards.
United quarterback Adam Lewis went 4-14 for 60 yards. The two-headed tandem of Ryan Phillips and Ryan Greier added another 133 on the ground. Phillips gained 77 yards on 13 carries, and Greier had 56 yards on nine carries.
Mike McLaughlin caught two balls for 50 yards.
Quaker quaterback Trent Toothman was 11-22 for 106 yards and an interception.
Wellsville 46, Toronto 14
WELLSVILLE — Brandon Edison scored a pair of touchdowns and finished with 179 yards rushing.
Jeremy Carter also scored twice for the Tigers (2-0) while Bubba Dowling, Ryan Crabtree and Nick Dalrymple tallied on runs from the 4, 10 and 14.
Cody Cerrnasky led Toronto (1-1) by passing for TDs to Joe Shimmel (53 yards) and Mike Garman (12).
