RESULTS: Jackson-Milton, Wellsville win; Mineral Ridge, Lowellville lose


NORTH JACKSON — Junior fullback Wilbur Wilson had 180 yards rushing on 26 carries en route to Jackson-Milton’s first season-opening win in six years, 30-8, over Windham Friday night.

“We played great defense,” said first-year coach Tim McGlynn, whose team held the Bombers scoreless until four minutes remained. “That was against our second-team, which we put in at nine minutes.”

Wilson’s two touchdown runs covered 28 and 21 yards, along with a conversion gallop. His rushing yardage contributed to the Bluejays’ 330 yard rushing total.

Rob Roessler added 90 yards on 10 carries.

Reggie Johnson caught five passes for 80 yards and Jeff Balent had three catches for 67 yards and one TD via a 14-yard run. J.D. Balch also ran 32 yards for a tally.

Quarterback Ben Carlile completed 8 of 12 passes for 172 yards.

Mogadore 27, Mineral Ridge 7

MINERAL RIDGE — Kodey Chance scored twice and Chad White completed six of 13 passes for 101 yards and one TD to Matt Traugh for Mogadore (1-0).

Junior Kyle Skiba had 91 yards on 25 carries while sophomore Dan Skiba had 52 yards on 11 tries and a touchdown for Mineral Ridge, which lost two of six fumbles.

Mogadore took a 21-0 lead into the scoreless third quarter.

Ridge (0-1) scored last when Dan Skiba ran 11 yards with 6:15 remaining.

Malvern 49, Lowellville 13

MALVERN — Tyler Tucci threw four touchdown passes and rushed for two more scores for the Malvern Hornets.

Tucci threw two touchdown passes to Vince Larson. Tucci finished 7-15 passing with 173 yards and no interceptions.

Both of Tucci’s touchdown runs came in the second half.

John Dashchek got Lowellville on the board with a 12-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Dashchek was Lowellville’s leading rusher with 67 yards on 13 carries.

Mike Basista scored Lowellville’s second touchdown on a 6-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Lowellville’s offense struggled in the first half. The Rockets did not cross their own 30-yard line on offense during that time period.

Wellsville 60, Strasburg 3

STRASBURG — Rick Dalrymple rushed six times for 114 yards including a 53-yard touchdown run to lead the Tigers.

Dalrymple also returned an interception 24 yards for a score while Nate McGeehan recovered a Strasburg fumble in the end zone for another score.

Bubba Dowling scored touchdowns on runs of 21 and 5 yards.
