Lakeview needed double
overtime to defeat Champion.

BROOKFIELD — Kyle Stadelmyer rushed for 91 yards and caught three passes for 46 more Friday to lead the Girard High football team to a 23-0 defeat of Brookfield.

Stadelmyer also scored a 2-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Adam Charles completed 9 of 13 passes for 107 yards and two touchdowns for the Indians (2-2, 1-0 Trumbull Athletic Conference).

Anthony Guerrieri’s 7-yard scoring reception put Girard ahead, 7-0, in the first quarter. The lead doubled in the second quarter when Josh Lisko caught a 7-yard scoring toss.

The Warriors were limited to 20 yards rushing on 26 attempts.

For the Warriors (3-1, 0-1), Mack O’Brien rushed 12 times for 58 yards and Devin O’Brien completed 5 of 10 passes for 64 yards.

Champion 27, 2 OT

CHAMPION — Justin Wazelle scored three touchdowns, the last coming on a 1-yard run in the second overtime, and Lakeview rallied from a 21-6 halftime deficit.

Wazelle’s second TD, which came with 5:55 left in the fourth quarter, gave the Bulldogs a 27-21 lead. But Joe Cvengros tied things up on a 15-yard touchdown pass to Markel Vaughn with 1:01 left.

Kicker Adam Chinchic, who was perfect on his first three PATs, missed the extra point to force overtime.

After the two teams were held scoreless in the first overtime, Lakeview scored first and held Champion without a first down in its possession to secure the win.

Ben Moody had 130 yards on 25 carries to lead the Bulldogs (2-2, 1-0 TAC).

Chris Wildman had 112 yards on 27 carries for Champion (3-1, 0-1).

LIBERTY — Fitzgerald Toussaint rushed for 140 yards on 12 carries, which included touchdown runs of 25, 32 and 4 yards for the Leopards (4-0, 1-0).

Kyle Rice of the Leopards gained 89 yards on five rushes, which included TD runs of 16 and 31 yards.

Newton Falls’ (1-3) Brian Soles connected on 8 of 14 passes for 132 yards and Joe Zigler caught a TD strike from Soles for 57 yards. He finished with five receptions for 100 yards.
