CANFIELD — Randy Triplett passed for three touchdowns and added another tally rushing as the Youngstown Christian Eagles toppled the Sebring Trojans, 35-0 in high school football action Saturday at Canfield High.
Triplett completed nine of 10 passes for 183 yards, adding 52 more yards on the ground as he accounted for 235 of the Eagles’ 264 total offensive yards or 89 percent of all offense in his team’s first win of the season.
“This was a big win for us and everyone contributed on both sides of the football,” first-year Eagles head coach Brian Marrow said. “We had a few injuries that we needed to nurse after the first week of the season, but our overall effort was there and that is what impressed me most.
“Sebring is a well-coached team and the final score was not indicative of the type of team that they have,” Marrow said.
Strong start
The Eagles got on the board twice in the opening quarter on a 43-yard interception return by Dante Yanno and a 68-yard pass from Triplett to Ed Gonda.
They increased their lead to 28-0 at intermission on Triplett’s one yard run and Triplett’s second scoring strike of the night, a 10-yard connection to Tulu Oshonowo.
Triplett’s third strike of the night, a 28-yard pass to Anthony LaGamba midway through the third period rounded out the scoring on the night.
Youngstown Christian (1-1) racked up all but 81 of their total offensive yards via the air while the Eagle defense held Sebring (1-2) to 114 total offensive yards, all but 26 coming on the ground while limiting the Trojans to just 49 total yards on 21 plays in the first half.
Youngstown Christian held a 13-6 first down advantage in the game.
