Ganyard powers Niles; Poland falls to Normandy


NILES — Nate Ganyard rushed for 137 yards on 11 carries Friday to lead the Niles High football team to a 56-6 victory over Lincoln-West.

Ganyard’s runs included scores of 28, 5, 9 and 8 yards for the Red Dragons (2-0). He tied the school career record of 264 points held by Matt Bates.

The Red Dragons jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter and they were cruising 48-0 at intermission.

Niles rushed for 275 yards on 27 attempts and they gained 96 passing.

The Red Dragons’ defense limited Lincoln-West to 32 rushing yards on 19 tries and they were minus five passing.

Normandy 14
Poland 6

PARMA — Normandy (2-0) took a 14-0 lead in the second quarter and Poland (1-1) couldn’t catch up.

Greg Sabol caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from Gannon Hulea for the Bulldogs in the third quarter.

Hulea hit on 14 of 17 passes for 162 yards. Mark Jenkins of Normandy was 7 of 16 for 89 yards.

The Bulldogs actually had a slight statistics advantage as they gained 139 rushing and 162 passing yards, compared to 122 and 89 for Normandy.

Salem 7

SALEM — John Hartenstein rushed for 140 yards on 23 carries and scored on a 6-yard run in lead the Golden Eagles (1-1) to victory.

Eric Saska of the Golden Eagles rushed four times for 89 yards and scored on a 34-yard run.

Zach O’Brien of the Quakers (0-2) connected on 10 of 23 passes for 50 yards including a 7-yard TD strike to Ben Eisel.
