Struthers upends rival; Salem tops E. Liverpool

CAMPBELL — Anthony Yeager scored two touchdowns, including the game-winner with about five minutes left in the fourth quarter, as Struthers rallied past rival Campbell, 12-7, in a Metro Athletic Conference game Friday night.

With Campbell leading, 7-6, Yeager scored on a 4-yard dash to give Struthers the win.

Yeager finished with 150 yards rushing in 21 carries.

After a scoreless first half, Struthers capitalized on a fumble recovery at the Campbell 40 in the third quarter and drove the distance to Yeager’s 8-yard run for a 6-0 lead.

But Campbell bounced back to take a 7-6 lead in the fourth quarter on John Turner’s 1-yard plunge and Alex Lopez’s extra-point kick.

Campbell turned over the ball five times during the game, including twice in the first half, but Struthers was able to capitalize on only one of the turnovers, that leading to the third-period score.

Penalties by the Wildcats and the Red Devils’ aggressive defensive play foiled Struthers’ scoring opportunities.
