Springfield holds off Lisbon to nab second win of the year


Leetonia, Wellsville, Western Reserve and Crestview earned ITCL wins.

NEW MIDDLETOWN — Ron Synder rushed for 101 yards, and his 4-yard touchdown run with 2 minutes, 16 seconds remaining in the first half provided the go-ahead points for Springfield in a 17-14 win over Lisbon in an Inter Tri-County League Tier One game Friday.

The Tigers (2-7, 2-4 ITCL Tier One) led 10-0 less than eight minutes into the game on a 23-yard scoring pass from Nate Schuler to Brandon Goist and Bryan Visingardi’s 26-yard field goal.

Lisbon (2-7, 0-6) came right back on 49- and 1-yard TD runs by Dana Rose, the latter coming with 17 seconds to go in the opening quarter.

Rose rushed for 136 yards to lead the Blue Devils.

Schuler completed 9-of-16 passes for 90 yards; with Goist catching four for 43 yards.

Jarrod Lewis, Goist and Eric Lipp all had interceptions for Springfield, and Shaun O’Neil recovered a fumble.

Leetonia 50,
Jackson-Milton 7

NORTH JACKSON — Jake Kruegel ran 10 times for 141 yards to lead Leetonia (6-3, 5-1 ITCL Tier Two), which took a 36-0 halftime lead.

Andrew Ryan added nine carries for 71 yards for the Bears, who entered the game 10th in the Division VI, Region 21 computer ratings. With a win and a McDonald loss next week, Leetonia can earn a share of the league title.

Joey Skaggs rushed for 76 yards on 16 carries for the Bluejays (1-8, 1-5).

Wellsville 28,
Southern 0

WELLSVILLE — Bubba Dowling scored on run of 28, 5 and 8 yards in leading the Tigers (4-5, 3-3) to victory over the Indians (2-7, 2-4).

Jeff Hanselman scored on a 37-yard run and he gained 125 yards on 22 attempts.

The Indians were limited to 28 rushing and 32 passing yards, while the Tigers had 250 yards of offense.

Western Reserve 56,
Sebring 0

SEBRING — Shane Ewing threw four touchdown passes and Jason Lude scored three times for Western Reserve (5-4, 4-2 ITCL Tier Two).

Ewing completed 11-of-17 for 226 yards, while Nate Lude caught three of them for 103 yards and a touchdown. Jason Lude finished with 97 yards on 19 carries with two rushing TDs.

The Blue Devils held Sebring (1-8, 0-6) to just 51 yards rushing while intercepting two passes and recovering one fumble.

United 21
