Ewing, Kabfel spearhead Western Reserve victory


The Blue Devils turned back Lowellville, 28-20, for their fourth win.

BERLIN CENTER — Despite rushing for 253 yards on 45 carries, the Lowellville High football team came up short Friday at Western Reserve.

Two fumbles and an interception played a role in the Rockets’ 28-20 loss to the Blue Devils.

Matt Kalbfell’s 95-yard kick return plus a 28-yard pass reception from Shane Ewing sparked the Blue Devils (4-4, 3-2 Inter Tri-County League Tier Two).

Ewing completed 12 of 16 passes for 139 yards. Clayton Hull caught six passes for 80 yards, including a 7-yard touchdown.

Ewing scored on a 3-yard run.

For the Rockets (4-4, 3-2), Vince Traveline rushed 16 times for 113 yards including a 7-yard run.

Traveline also caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Joey DePasquale, who completed nine of 12 attempts for 103 yards. DePasquale scored on a 9-yard run.

Jackson-Milton 20

NORTH JACKSON — Darren Mills’ 87-yard return on the opening kickoff set the tone for Southern’s victory.

Mills also scored on an 80-yard run and Nathan Melhorn tacked on back-to-back TD runs covering 19 and 56 yards.

Melhorn also threw a TD pass to Mike McVay for the Indians (2-6, 2-3).

Jackson-Milton dropped to 1-7, 1-4.

Sebring 6

SEBRING — Jeff Hanselman scored touchdowns on runs of 10 and 5 yards for the Tigers (3-5, 2-3 Tier Two). He rushed 17 times for 1-01 yards.

Bryan Crabtree’s 1-yard touchdown in the first quarter put Wellsville ahead, 6-0. Bubba Dowling scored on a 6-yard run.

For Sebring (1-7, 0-5), Josh Hallett rushed six times for 27 yards.
