Inkster records 36-20 win over Warren Harding
Newton Falls, Brookfield and Lakeview all posted wins.
WARREN — D.J. Dota’s coaching debut didn’t exactly go as planned.
Dota, who replaced Thom McDaniels in the offseason, saw his Warren Harding team give up a 14-0 lead en route to a 36-20 loss to visiting Inkster, Mich., in a prep football game Friday night at Mollenkopf Stadium.
Mike Dorsey carried 17 times for 68 yards and two touchdowns for the Raiders, who lost to Mentor in last year’s Division I regional finals.
Aunre Davis completed 8 of 15 passes for 114 yards for Harding, which gave up more than 400 yards on defense.
Aaron Shavers carried 16 times or 199 yards and also threw for 95 yards to lead Inkster.
Newton Falls 27,
Rittman 14
RITTMAN — Newton Falls unleashed a balanced scoring attack with four players scoring touchdowns, as the Tigers built a 27-0 lead and held on for a 27-14 win over Rittman.
Jae Leeworthy scored from the 3 and Tamir Grogan from the 7 in the opening quarter, and then Joe Zigler tallied on a 26-yard pass interception in the second period — Leeworthy kicking all three placements — to give the Tigers a 21-0 half-time lead.
Then Grogan hit Jeff Hahn on an 11-yard scoring strike in the third period to complete the Newton Falls scoring.
Rittman bounced back behind Brandon Bauman, who fired a 36-yard TD strike to Dustin Sharier in the third quarter, and also ran 5 yards to a score in the final quarter.
John Davis led the Tigers’ rushing attack with 78 yards in 13 carries.
Bauman sparked Rittman with 82 yards rushing in 16 carries, and he also passed for 7 yards on 4-for-13.
Brookfield 12,
Conneaut 7
BROOKFIELD — Devin O’Brien scored the game-winning touchdown on a 3-yard run with four minutes left in the fourth quarter to lift the Warriors, who forced six Conneaut turnovers to earn the win.
O’Brien finished with 21 carries for 61 yards and also threw for a touchdown, connecting with Brookfield receiver Dave Nehlen on a 14-yard score in the second quarter.
Mike Bender added 58 yards on 10 carries for the Warriors.
Lakeview 37,
Painesville Harvey 33
PAINESVILLE — Trailing 33-22 entering the final quarter, Lakeview High rallied for two touchdowns from Justin Wazelle and Jon Diehl to overcome Painesville Harvey, 37-33.
Wazelle scored on a 20-yard pass from Justin Clark and then Clark hit Jarred Clark on the conversion pass to pull Lakeview within 33-30.
Then Diehl ran 10 yards to what turned out to be the winning score and Matt Metzger added the placement to complete the Bulldogs’ comeback.
Ben Moody rushed for 141 yards in 24 carries, including a 5-yard TD smash, to key Lakeview’s attack while Vinnie Elias added 59 yards in 15 carries, including a 4-yard TD run.
Justin Clark completed six of 12 passes for 80 yards, Lylan Hardman catching four tosses for 44 yards.
Harvey was led by Mick Mohner with 13-for-21 passing for 252 yards, including three TD passes, two going to Chris Fields for 39 and 5 yards, while Fields caught six of the aerials for 75 yards.

Edgewood 7
CHAMPION — Chris Wildman rushed 21 times for 128 yards, which included TD runs of 6 and 2 yards as Champion rolled to a victory.
Champion gained 185 yards rushing, while holding Ashtabula Edgewood to 100 on 29 attempts.
