Today’s Vindy contains the final hole in our inaugural “18 Greatest Golf Holes of the Valley” tourney.
And Friday and Saturday, we play to crown six people as “Greatest Golfer of the Valley.” (For those six winners, I think I’ll call them “G” for short.)
It’s been a fun project that has introduced The Vindy to many new faces in the valley, as well as reuniting us with the old faces.
Along with us for the ride have been some great folks, including the Farmers National Bank team, The Muransky Companies, Superior Beverage, the Cole Valley, Stadium, Mark Thomas and Jaguar of Warren auto groups.
We’ve had some great golf guys in Dennis Miller and Andy Santor of Mill Creek, John Diana or Trumbull Country Club and Mike Ferranti of The Lake Club.
We also had a unique golf guy help out in Jonah Karzmer or Youngstown Golf Association. When this event got launched in January, I knew we needed a weekly blogger who knew golf. You can find writers, and you can find people who know golf. To find one person who can do both is impossible. Then Jonah and I started emailing about the tournament and the project — and the impossible was staring at me in an email. Jonah’s been fun to read each week.
Here’s what you should know as we wrap up year 1:
• There will be a Year 2 of Greatest Golf Holes. Some early thoughts are to turn the “18 Greatest” over to the golfers and let them vote, maybe starting in February.
• There will be a Year 2 for Greatest Golfer of the Valley, and we have a lot of ideas for that — all of which we tallied up Saturday and Sunday afternoon as we watched players roll in 5-hour-plus rounds. So tops on the list will be quicker play!!!!!!
But before all of that, join us Friday and Saturday at The Lake Club for the finals. On Friday, Seniors and SuperSeniors tee off at 9 a.m. On Saturday, ladies and mens divisions will tee off starting at 8:45 a.m.
Click here for the players. Leaders in each group go off last. Tee times will be in The Vindicator Wednesday and Thursday and Saturday, as well as online here.
All of this is open to the public at the phenomenal setting of The Lake Club.
