A North Carolina radio enthusiast stumbled upon something unique from the Valley that we can use a lil' help with.

If you were a child during the Christmases of the 1940s, you might have bumped into a radio show produced by WKBN radio called "Mystery Forest." (Someone suggested it also could have been "Enchanted Forest.")

Randy Riddle of North Carolina is a collector of 16" radio transcriptions. Transcriptions were essentially vinyl records, only thicker, that local radio stations used decades ago to record their radio programs.

Randy acquired a collection recently, and mixed in it was WKBN's "Enchanted Forest" program. It was sponsored by Stambaugh-Thompson. The serial focused on two kids ambling through Enchanted Forest trying to find holiday mystery packages. As part of the program, Stambaugh sold weekly mystery boxes of toys that coincided with the storyline.

If you were familiar with the show and its performers, email me at tfranko@vindy.com as it might make a nice holiday story.

According to Randy, the record label says the show was written by Ellamae Casteel, produced and directed by Chick Lynn and the sound effects were by Howard Rampus.
