There’s a neat report put out by the American Lung Association that breaks down the air quality in places throughout the country, including our area.
I just scanned the report, and I'll come back to it later. But I'll share it quickly.
For America overall, the study found:
• 61.7 percent of the U.S. population lives in counties that have unhealthy levels of either ozone or particle pollution.
• 58 percent of us live in areas with unhealthful levels of ozone.
How about Mahoning and Trumbull counties? (Sorry, Columbiana, you’re not on the list.)
For ozone exposure, both Mahoning and Trumbull got failing scores.
Mahoning had 24 unhealthy air days, while Trumbull had 46 days of unhealthy air.
Two of the 25 most-polluted short-term counties are in our region — Allegheny County, Pa. (Pittsburgh) and Washington County, Pa. (Washington/Canonsburg to the south of Pittsburgh)
