George Stephanopoulos, one of the architects of Bill Clinton's presidential win in 1992 and now host of a Sunday talk show on ABC, has come up with a list of six states to watch between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. as the polls close: Virginia, Indiana, Ohio, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Florida.

Stephanopoulos has written that Republican John McCain would need to win five of the six in order to have a chance.

On the local level, watch the 4th and 7th wards in the city of Youngstown to get a sense of whether Democrat Barack Obama succeeded in winning over older, white, blue-collar Democratic voters who strongly supported Sen. Hillary Clinton in the March primary.

The biracial Democratic nominee — black father from Kenya, white mother from Kansas — will do extremely well in the predominantly black 1st and 2nd wards, and should have a respectable showing in the 3rd, 5th and 6th. But it will be his votes in the 4th and 7th that will be most telling.
