There are rumblings that two statewide polls to be published Sunday in two major newspapers will show that the hotly contested race for Ohio attorney general has become a toss up. If true, it means that Democratic nominee Marc Dann, state senator from Liberty Township, will have made the greatest comeback of this political season.

For months, Republican nominee Betty Montgomery, currently Ohio's auditor, has enjoyed a significant lead in the polls. Indeed, she has been the only Republican mentioned as surviving the GOP crash of 2006.

Dann, contacted Friday, confirmed that his polling shows him going head-to-head with Montgomery.

Sounding very much like the frontrunner, Dann said his campaign will flood the airwaves between now and Tuesday's general election because his fund-raising has been extremely successful.

Given that Democrat Ted Strickland of Lisbon has the race for governor locked and that Democrat Sherrod Brown has the advantage over U.S. Sen. Mike DeWine, a Republican, all eyes will be on the attorney general's contest election night.

In other words, the Mahoning Valley will be in the spotlight in a good way, for a change.
