Atty. David Betras, the slayer of the Girard traffic camera dragon, was clocked at 93 miles an hour in a 65 miles an hour zone. Wonder if Betras, who is pursuing a class-action suit challenging the constutionality of the traffic camera in Girard, will argue that the state trooper had no right to give him the speeding ticket because his speed was recorded by radar.

Wonder if Betras will argue that in order to clock him at 93 miles an hour, the trooper should have been running alongside his car.

Snide commentary aside, it is fair to ask whether Betras would have been so willing to accept the speeding ticket had he not been embroiled in the battle over the camera with the city of Girard. When was the last time you heard of a lawyer not trying to sweet talk a law enforcement type into giving him a break?

But not only didn't Betras plead his case, but he made it known to reporters that he intends to pay the fine in January.

In the dead of night, as he ponders the fine and the points that will be assessed against his driver's license, it isn't hard to imagine Betras slapping his forehead saying, "Why did I have to make such a big deal about the camera in Girard?"

There's no doubt that Betras' detractors will see poetic justice in his misfortune, but knowing him, he'll turn the January fine payment into a media circus.
