1. As I reported Thursday night, http://www.vindy.com/news/2014/dec/12/coach-search-to-stretch-into-the-weekend/">another candidate has emerged in Youngstown State's football coaching search.

That candidate — and I don't know who it is — is supposed to interview on Sunday.

Like other schools, YSU tries to keep candidates secret because some of them are current head coaches. It's hard to ask your players to give 100 percent — or recruit new players — when they know you're flirting with other schools in the offseason.

Of course, we reporters do everything we can to find out anyway. That's what makes us such delightful pains in the neck.

2. As a side note, I always laugh when a big-time coach from the NFL or one of the Power Five conferences gets linked to a new job and insists, "I haven't been contacted by School X."

No kidding. Your agent has.

3. One of YSU's finalists, Florida Atlantic offensive coordinator Brian Wright, withdrew from consideration on Friday.

Wright was an assistant under Jon Heacock at YSU from 2001-09 and was the offensive coordinator for the second half of that stint.

Wright was FAU's interim head coach for the final four games in 2013 after Carl Pelini resigned. He stayed on at FAU when the Owls hired Charlie Partridge as head coach. You can read more about his decision http://www.fauowlaccess.com/articles/346/faus-brian-wright-staying-with-the-owls.aspx">here.

4. WFMJ-TV sports director Dana Balash mentioned Fordham coach Joe Moorhead as a possibility at YSU but it doesn't look like he's a candidate.

Moorhead has done a great job in the Bronx but http://www.fordhamsports.com/news/2014/12/11/FB_1211142919.aspx">he signed a one-year contract extension to keep him with his alma mater through 2022. He also makes $450,000 a year, while Eric Wolford made just under $260,000 last year at YSU.

As proof that there's always a Youngstown connection, Moorhead's agent is Valley native Brian Kopp, whose brother was YSU's director of football operations until this year. Also, Moorhead's running backs coach at Fordham is Struthers High graduate Tim Zetts, who played quarterback at Akron. Zetts' father, of course, was the long-time head coach at Struthers.

5. Bo Pelini was briefly in the mix to be the head coach at Wisconsin before the Badgers hired away Paul Chryst from Pitt, who lost to YSU in his first game with the Panthers in 2012.

I have no idea if Pitt will reach out to Pelini (or vice versa), but I wouldn't be surprised. Pelini and his wife are Cardinal Mooney graduates and Bo has said he would like his children to attend Cardinal Mooney, which is one of the reasons why he's been interested in YSU's vacancy. Coaching at Pitt would also make that possible, provided Pelini doesn't mind commuting 45 minutes or so to work every day.
