The Youngstown State football team put away a very dangerous Albany football team with a 1-yard touchdown run by Torrian Pace on fourth-and-goal with 2:48 left in the fourth quarter of Saturday's game at Stambaugh Stadium. Albany made a field goal in the closing minutes but the Penguins recovered an onside kick with less than a minute left to hold on for a 31-24 victory.

Youngstown State took a 24-21 lead with 2:15 left in the third quarter on a 25-yard field goal by David Brown.

The field goal capped a 12-play, 70-yard drive that took 6:48 off the clock.

---

Will Fiacchi hit Drew Smith with a 9-yard TD pass with nine seconds left in the second quarter as Albany tied YSU 21-21.

That is the halftime score.

Couple thoughts:

1. Youngstown State's defense has looked atrocious. The Great Danes are doing a lot of play action and misdirection and there are Penguin defenders out of position all over the place.

2. Not only that, but nobody on YSU's defense has made an impact play. The Penguins forced two huge fumbles against Pitt but so far, the Great Danes are having their way.

3. YSU's offense has been efficient and methodical, with Jamaine Cook running for three TDs in the first half. Torrian Pace has looked good, too.

4. TE Will Shaw had a brutal fumble deep in Albany territory that set up the game's first touchdown. Also, YSU's receivers have been pretty quiet. That might be an underrated storyline -- through three games, YSU's receivers have not looked great, outside of maybe Andre Stubbs.

---

Jamaine Cook scored his third touchdown of the game, this time from 7 yards out, to give YSU a 21-14 lead over visiting Albany with 3:37 left in the second quarter.

Albany tied Youngstown State at 14 with an eight-play, 80-yard drive, capped by Omar Osbourne's 32-yard TD run through the left side of the Penguin defense with 9:08 left in the second quarter.

The Penguins took a 14-7 lead with 13:27 left in the second quarter on Jamaine Cook's 7-yard TD run.

---

Youngstown State fell behind for the first time this season when Albany quarterback Will Fiacchi hit Cole King for a 44-yard TD pass off a flea flicker with 9:52 left in the first quarter.

The Penguins answered with an 87-yard touchdown drive capped by Jamaine Cook's 2-yard TD run with 5:25 left.
