FOURTH QUARTER

The Penguins are growing up in front of everyone's eyes.

Jamaine Cook scored on a 1-yard run on third and goal to cut YSU's deficit to 34-28 with 13:10 left in the fourth quarter.

Keep in mind that YSU was down 21-0 before it had even gained a first down. Now it's got the momentum and a real chance to win this game.

Stay tuned.

Indiana State answered three minutes later with a 22-yard field goal by Cory Little. That was actually a little bit of a moral victory because the Sycamores looked like they were going in for a touchdown.

The key play was a 900-yard (OK, it only felt like that) pass to the tight end, setting up a first down at the YSU 12.

It's 37-28 with 10:20 left.

YSU's ensuing drive stalls inside ISU territory when Kurt Hess was picked off on a deep pass play at the 6. Probably better than a punt but the Penguins needed a score there.

The Penguins might need a turnover if they want to have a chance in this one. There's about seven minutes left.

YSU forces a punt and takes over near its 30 with about 5 minutes left and scores with 1:21 left on a 4-yard TD pass from Kurt Hess to Jelani Berassa. The extra point makes it 37-35 ISU with 1:21 left.

The Penguins have all three timeouts but need to get an onside kick to win.

Unfortunately for YSU, David Brown's kick didn't make it 10 yards before going out of bounds and ISU takes over at the YSU 38. That'll do it.

YSU loses 37-35.

THIRD QUARTER

After picking up a first down, YSU was forced to punt from its own 35 on its own drive. Nick Liste's punt was poor but it appeared to hit a Sycamore player and YSU appeared to recover the ball.

Apparently not. It wouldn't have mattered anyway because YSU was flagged for illegal hands to the face. Indiana State starts at it own 49.

Quick note: Senior John Sasson is back at LB and Scott Sentner has replaced Jeremey Edwards at safety. Edwards did not have a good first half, looking helpless on several occasions when Shakir Bell broke into the open field.

The Penguins forced a punt -- a quick kick on fourth-and-5 at the Penguins' 45. The punt was poor and YSU will take over at its own 19.

After a first down, YSU forced to punt again. The story of the game is how often Hess has had to step away from pressure even when Indiana State is only rushing three or four. Indiana State gets the ball at its own 37.

After a first down, the Sycamores punt. After an explosive first half, the third quarter has been pretty quiet so far. It's 34-21 with 5:01 left in the third quarter.

Injury update: LB Thomas Sprague is out for the rest of the game with a hamstring injury. Sprague is most a special teams player and I think Gannon Hulea took his spot on the punt return.

YSU had a nice drive going to end the third quarter and will start the fourth with a first down at the Indiana State 17. The key play so far came on a fourth-and-3, with Kurt Hess hitting TE Carson Sharbaugh for about 10 yards to set up a first down deep in Sycamore territory.
