When you think about craft beer in the Valley, one of the first names you should think of is Phill and Sandy Reda. These guys really love craft beer and it shows in every beer venture they embark on.

Magic Tree is no exception, and any craft lover worth their weight in hops would agree. Not only is the food awesome, thanks Tank! but the access they provide to beer is undeniably one of the best.

Now there are a lot of great places in the area to get a great local, regional or national craft beer, plus a bite to eat and the Redas realize this, so they not only provide the beer… they provide the brewery.

As they’ve done for sometime, Phill and Sandy provide a great experience for drinkers to enjoy a beer, meet brewery representatives and gain a little swag if you’re so lucky.

This has become a regular Wednesday tapping and intro to a great brewery. This past week we had the pleasure of hanging out with Caitlyn Tizio of Platform Beer Company out of Cleveland.

Now the Mahoning Valley Flight Crew has been fortunate enough to spend a little time with Caitlyn and Platform Beer Co. and have come to learn that she loves drinking great beer and talking about the great beer Platform is churning out.

They tapped three fantastic beers at Magic Tree, although I’m a little disappointed someone snagged the Farmer’s Mom Saison Farmhouse Ale while she was in a meeting. But… we definitely can’t complain about what she brought for us to enjoy.

Amarillo Fog Imperial Double IPA (8.1% ABV 126 IBUs)

This beer pours a little hazy and bursts with the flavor of the Amarillo hops. Hints of grapefruit, pineapple and citrus make this beer an enjoyable drink at the bar or on a hot day.

The Project - El Dorado Pale Ale (5.1% ABV 35 IBUs)

The El Dorado hops used to dry hop this series of The Project creates a nice aroma and a honey-like sweetness on the palate.

Hubris Quadruple IPA (10% ABV 250 IBUs)

This is a beautiful looking beer. It pours a caramel color. It is definitely a beer where both the malt and hops shine. Don’t let the ABV or IBUs scare you. It is not an overly boozy beer and doesn’t have the a hop profile that will slap you in the face. This is just a good beer, and one that is hard to find so far away from the brewery.

Magic Tree runs a brewery tapping every Wednesday night at 6:00 PM. You can follow them on Facebook to find out who’s being tapped. This week it’s Rivertowne Brewery from Pittsburgh. They will be showcasing Suburban Housewife (Kolsch), Salt N' Peppacorn (Gose) and the only nitro Cascadian Devil in Ohio!

Platform Beer Company brews are distributed locally by R.L. Lipton Distributing and can picked up at many of your favorite local go-to beer stops.
