The downtime on a Sunday afternoon awaiting the Steelers vs. the Patriots in the AFC Championship game seemed like a perfect time to crack open a can of craft beer.

Ironically, as I perused the inventory in my beer fridge — acquired primarily through my winnings from the Mahoning Valley Flight Crew fantasy football league — the orange and brown can of North High Brewing Co.’s Grapefruit Walleye session IPA stood out.

This one is 4.7 percent ABV with an IBU of 64. According to the North High website, Citra hops gives Grapefruit Walleye a “dank pungency” that’s amplified with a hearty dose of grapefruit juice.

Evidently, I’m a huge fan of dank and pungent things because I absolutely love this beer. It tastes exactly as an IPA should. Drinking this beer makes me reminisce back to the flavors and experiences that turned me into a craft beer lover in the first place.

North High Brewing opened in Columbus in 2011. Demand for its beers caused a need for expansion, and turned it from one of Columbus’ smallest breweries into one of the city's largest.

The Flight Crew has sampled several North High beers. The IPA and the Pale Ale are outstanding. But, for me, the Grapefruit Walleye is definitely the one most worth reeling in.
