i'm writing this on the Mumm Napa deck overlooking the Mayacamas Mountains bathed in 64 degree sunshine.
Our group is starting our day right at the incredible Mumm Napa Sparkling Winery on the Silverado Trail. Our tour guide Nick Hall, took the group on a very informative tour with plenty of education on the process of making bubbly.
As I mentioned in the previous blog about our experience at Kendall-Jackson, we all appreciate wineries that offer a high level of education as part of the tasting process. At age 23, Nick is one of the youngest hosts I've ever had, but his knowledge and enthusiasm helped us all appreciate the experience:
Here's a rundown of what we're tasting out here:
- Mumm Napa Blanc de Blanc
90% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Gris. Delightful acidity with Granny Smith Apple and tantalizing citrus.
- Mumm Napa Brut Prestige
45% Chardonnay, 45% Pinot Noir, 10% Pinot Meunier / Gris
Riper fruit flavors with golden apple and Bosc pear.
- Mumm Napa Mumm Napa Rose'
Fresh red berries and strawberry pie with a sublime finish.
- Mumm Napa Cuvee' M
Something wonderful for those who like it slightly sweeter.
We also had the chance to taste the 2011 DVX Rose' and 2005 DVX. Both showed incredibly well and the 2005 demonstrated just how well premium Napa bubbly can age.
Thanks to Nick, everyone at Mumm Napa and my friends at Heideleberg Youngstown for this wonderful experience.
