The weather in our Valley has definitely taken the turn into winter and that means long cold nights. Sharing a nice bottle with a loved one or friends is a great cure for the winter blues and is an excellent way to make the joyous season a little brighter.

We also tend to gather around the television this time of year, tuning into some of our favorite holiday movies. Why not pair the wine and movie experience to make both even more enjoyable?

Here's a look at four wines, each paired with a classic holiday movie for your enjoyment:

Movie: Home Alone (1990)

Pairing: Castello del Poggio's Moscato Provincia Di Pavia ($14)

Being left at home alone can be terrifying, but Kevin McCallister turned this fear into every kid's dream. Pour yourself a glass of Castello del Poggio's Moscato Provincia Di Pavia, a refreshing white wine with delightful sweetness and a touch of effervescence that will make Harry and Marv even more ridiculous. The wine’s low alcohol level (7%) makes it a safe option if you end up getting sucked in for the sequels.

Movie: Love Actually (2003)

Pairing: Castello di Gabiano's La Braja ($23)

As you follow the lives of nine different couples dealing with their love lives, enjoy a glass of Castello di Gabiano's La Braja, a Barbera d’Asti wine that has notes of red fruits followed by light spices and tobacco fragrances. It will surely help you cope with the loosely interrelated tales all set during the frantic month before Christmas in London. Cheers mate!

Movie: The Family Stone (2005)

Pairing: Domaine Bousquet's Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon ($18)

Bringing your uptight girlfriend home for the holidays to meet your eccentric and bohemian family is just a bad idea. Sip on Domaine Bousquet's Cabernet Sauvignon to dull Meredith's awkwardness as the Stone family picks her apart - from her nervous chatter to her throat-clearing tick.

Movie: The Holiday (2006)

Pairing: Qupe Central Coast Syrah ($20)

Finding love in unexpected places is the feel-good element of this movie. The chemistry you feel between Cameron Diaz and Jude Law, and the magic you feel between Kate Winslet and Jack Black is exactly what you will feel when you taste Qupe's Central Coast Syrah.

Special thanks to my colleague Krisna Bharvani for the help on this weeks Drinks Blog! Merry Christmas to all my readers!!
