The response to my first installment of the top 20 value wines of the year was excellent. Many people were interested to know where they could buy the first group of wines in our Valley. I've tried to construct this list mainly of wines that are readily available at our local retailers or on restaurant wine lists.
The best way to use this list is to print a copy or have it ready on your digital device when you get to your local store. Simply ask the manager if they have these wines in stock or if they are willing to get them for you. The popularity of this list clearly shows that Valley consumers are looking for good wines at a price that is accessible.
Here's a look at wines #15-#11:
15. NV Domaine Chandon Blanc de Noirs - California ($20)
This delightful Napa Valley bubbly is a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Fun and fruity with a hint of butter / cream on the finish.
14. 2011 Villa Banfi Principessa Gavi - Italy ($19)
A really unique and interesting "old world" white. Enticing tropical and citrus fruits integrated with clean acidity and a surpisingly lengthy finish.
13. 2011 Shannon Ridge Cabernet - California ($14)
This is the first wine to appear that also made last year's list. Lake County, CA is producing some great grapes at unbievable prices. Pick up a bottle of this and be a believer!
12. 2012 Merdiian Central Coast Pinot Noir - California ($12)
This is the lowest price wine that made the list. It is an absolute steal at its price, outperforming several other Pinot's twice as expeensive in a recent blind tasting.
11. 2011 Perez Cruz Carmenere - Chile ($15)
An aromatic and earthy red with dark fruits and well integrated spice throughout. This is a diverse food wine that can appeal to a variety of people eating a variety of menu options.
I hope you enjoyed this installment of the Top 20 Value Wines of 2014. Give a few of these a try and don't be afraid to share your thoughts on vindy.com. Next week we break into the top 10 with wine #10-#6. Cheers!
