Spain's place near the top of the wine world is undisputed around the globe. Their winemaking traditions go back centuries and wine is a huge part of Spanish culture on several levels. The diversity of the varietal offerings and vinification styles make Spain a wonderful place to investigate wine.

Americans have been a little slow to embrace Spanish vino. Their varietals are unfamiliar to most in the US and the regional designations can be a little confusing to those without background knowledge. In fact, I've always been convinced that is people just took the time to study the grapes and vineyard regions, they would enjoy Spanish wine much more.

A local event tomorrow (Thursday) night offers Valley wine lovers the chance to investigate and enjoy Spanish wine and even a little traditional food. Station Square Ristorante and Valley Vino join forces for the first time in 2014 for this event, which features wines from the Rueda and Jumilla regions.  The event reflects the tremendous value Spanish wines represent. All five of the wines are $17 or less and drink well above their price points.

Guests at the event can enjoy a taste of the five wines and a special Piaya appetizer plate created by Station Square Owner / Chef Ottavio Musmeci. The ticket price for the event is only $20. Here's a look at the featured wines:

1. 2012 Naia "Las Brisas" Bianco

60% Verdejo, 30% Viura and 10% Sauvignon Blanc

2.2012 Naia

100% Old Vine Verdejo

3. NV Luzon Organic

100% Organic Monastrell

4. 2009 Luzon Crianza Seleccion

50% Monastrell, 20% Cabernet, 20% Tempranillo, and 10% Merlot

5.2011 Mano a Mano

100% Tempranillo

The event starts at 6:30, but reservations as late as 8PM are accepted. You can call (330) 759-8802 to reserve your spot.
