It seems thee is a new craft beer available in our Valley just about every week. There is no doubt that the craft beer category is continuing a two year explosion that seems to have no end. One of the cool things about craft beer is that there are so many great, well established breweries still out there to be discovered. Deschutes Brewery is one of those "new" craft beers just arriving in our state.

The funny thing is that Deschutes is anything but new. They were founded in 1988 in Bend, Oregon and steadily built an impressive lineup of beers that have gained quite a following. In fact, Deschutes is the 5th largest seller of craft beer in the nation, and is the #1 craft brewery in the Pacific Northwest, according to industry statistics. While the numbers are nice, beer drinkers want to taste for themselves and decide, so here's a look at the beers now available in Ohio.

Inversion IPA

A big, bold IPA with an intense kick from the multiple types of hops used in the brewing process. Incredibly aromatic and complex.

ABV: 6.8%

IBU: 80

Hops: Millenium, Horizon, Centennial, Northern Brewer, Cascade, and Citra

Black Butte Porter

A slight hoppy bitterness up front defies the way most porters are brewed. The hops enhance the chocolate flavor and fresh roasted finish. Creamy mouthfeel.

ABV: 5.2%

IBU: 30

Malts: Pale, Carapils, Chocolate, Crystal, Wheat

Mirror Pond Pale Ale

Deschutes most popular beer, and the #2 selling craft pale ale in US. A big burst of Cascade hops hits you right up front and stays with you throughout.

ABV: 5%

IBU: 40

Hops: 100% Cascade

Red Chair NWPA

Utlizies seven select European and domestic malts to round out the big punch of hops up front. This is a well balanced IPA with nice complexity and intensity.

ABV: 6.2%

IBU: 60

Hops: Cascade and Centennial

All of these beers hit retailers and bars in our Valley this past week. The six packs retail for $9.99, which represents a nice value for the quality of beer you are getting. The beers are distributed locally by Heidelberg Imports, so if your local store or bar doesn't have them yet, they can esily get them for you.
