I have long identified Spain as one of the best countires to find wines of excellent quality at very reasonable price points. In fact, I have dedicated more print and blog space to Spanish wines in 2014 than ever before.

I did two Spanish wine evetns in 2014. They attracted an average of 58 people and the wines sold really well. What I've learned is pretty simple. The average wine consumer in our Valley wants to drink Spanish wine. They just need some help in understanding the grapes, regions, etc. before making their purchases.

Here's three from a recent round of tasting that you don't want to miss:

1. 2013 Naia - Rueda Region, $16

This is a enticing white wine with bright lime, grapefruit and kiwi fruit flavors accented by herbal qualities. The finish is long and with crsip acidity providing wonderful balance. Made from 100% Verdejo grapes.

2. NV Castellar Cava - Penedes Region, $13

A delightfully tantalizing bubbly that utliizes the historic "Methode Champenoise" established by French houses centuries ago. Green apple and citrus fruits make it crsip and fresh in the mouth with citrus-lime notes. Made with 40% Parellada, 40% Macabeo and 20% Xarello.

3. 2011 Sueno - Ribera Del Jucar Region, $15

Sueno means "dream" in Spanish. This wine is made from old vine Tempranillo grapes, some of which have been in the ground for 60+ years. Dark fruit flavors with round tannins and a spicy, full bodied finish. Made from 100% Tempranillo.

I hope you seek and out find these three Spanish gems. Naia is distributed locally by Natural States Wines and Castellar by Wine Trends-Heidelberg. The Sueno is being featured as a Chairman's Select wine in Pennsylvania stores around our region. Enjoy!
