There are few wines that provide the same great summer refreshment as Sauvignon Blanc. The combination of bright acidity, tropical and citrus fruit flavors and the scent of summer fields provide a near perfect drinking experience when the weather is hot.
Here's a look a five selections to finish off your summer:
1. John Anthony Sauvignon Blanc (CA)
Fruit is more on the tropical side with Mellon and Mango. More bright than crisp and by far the longest finish of the five in this review.
2. Oxford Landing Sauvignon Blanc (Australia)
Really surprised by the quality if this wine considering its $9 price tag. Refreshing minerality with lime zest and grassy accents.
3. Brancott Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc (New Zealand)
Has all the grapefruit flavors and aromas most people look for from New Zealand. It is also nicely balanced with some tribal elements and floral notes.
4. Chateau Ste Michelle Sauvignon Blanc (Washington)
This Columbis Valley wine focuses more on lush, ripe fruits balanced by subtle acidity and a hint of lemon. Fuller on the palate than most and enticingly fresh on the finish.
5. Hess Collection Sauvignon Blanc (California)
I'm continually impressed by the quality / price ratio of wines hailing from Lake County. This one offers classic citrus flavors along with guava and kiwi. Crisp acidity with grassy notes.
All of these wines are readily available at most local stores and restaurant wine lists. Enjoy them with lighter summer cuisine like salads, seafood and citrus / herb chicken. Enjoy!
