The quantity and variety of pumpkin beers and ales has skyrocketed over the last couple of years. There used to be about twenty of them distributed nationally. There are now at least fifty windely available in our valley. The pumpkins beers can vary widely in falvor profile. Some taste like pumpkin pie, others taste like beer with a hint of pumpkin, and a few include fall seasonal spices like cinnamom and nutmeg in the brewing process.
Here's a look at four Pumpkin Beers that I enjoyed at a recent tasting:
1. The Traveler Beer Company - Jack-O-Traveler Pumpkin Shandy
A nice balance of refreshment and seasonal spice. Excellent maltiness.
2. Thirsty Dog Brewing Company - Pumpkin Ale
A unique blend of squash, pumpkin, ginger and honey.
3. Uinta Brewing Company - Punk'n Harvest Pumpkin Ale
Malt and hops with the spices of the season - nutmeg, cinnamon and clove.
4. Anderson Valley - Fall Hornin' Pumpkin Ale
Carmelized hops and aromas of fresh baked bread. Creamy and silky on the finish.
Buy these beers ahead of time. They usually sell out before halloween, so stock up!
