The traditional Thanksgiving feast is my favorite of the year from a wine / food pairing perspective. Roasted turkey and the accompaniments can be enjoyed with a plethora of varietals. This is one of those meals where you can have four totally different bottles on the table, all of which will work with the cuisine.
You can really get creative and diverse with your wine choices and the boundaries are blurred, if not nearly limitless. Unlike many main courses like beef and most fish, turkey can be paired well with white or red wine. The festive fowl is also a food that lovers of sweet wine appreciate, as Riesling is an excellent pairing with the big bird.
Here's a look at my 2013 Thanksgiving wine pairings:
Chardonnay
2011 Fortrand Chardonnay (France)
2010 Pietro Napa Valley Chardonnay (CA)
Riesling
2011 Sea Glass Monterrey Riesling (CA)
2011 Chateau Ste. Michelle Columbia Valley Riesling (WA)
Pinot Noir
2010 Belle Glos "Meiomi" Pinot Noir (CA)
2009 Fiddlehead Cellars Pinot Noir (OR)
Red Blend
2009 Bere Toscana (ITA)
2010 Raymond Lot #7 Field Blend (CA)
I hope everyone has a joyful holiday weekend filled with family, food, fun and of course a little (or a lot) of good vino!
