It's the time of year when wine writers and enthusiasts attend events meant to celebrate the holidays. Most of these parties are thrown by distributors, restaurants or private clubs. The recent "Holiday Wine Festival" at Avalon Golf and Country Club offered those in attendance the chance to taste up to 52 different wines.
Amongst that vast and diverse array of varietals were some amazing Cabernets. Here's a look at my top four from that event:
4. Pietro Napa Cabernet $35
Rich dark fruit flavors that are concentrated and fresh. Moderate spice on the finish provides balance and a little extra length to the finish.
3. Daglia Canyon Cabernet $21
Represents incredible value at this price point with bright red fruits (defined cherry) and tannins interwoven with the fruit for excellent structure. Great buy!
2. Sharff Family Vineyards "The Gunfighter" Cabernet $28
Intense black cherry and blueberry with intricate earth tones and a pronounced spice profile including black pepper, smoke and leather on the finish.
1. Chateau Saint Michelle Indian Wells Cabernet $22
This one literally stole the show. Concetrated red fruit and plum mingles with delicate tannins and just the righ amount of cocoa, anise and pepper.
Most of these cabs are widely distributed in our Valley, so if they're not in your local store or restaurant, they should be able to get them for you easily. Until next time, cheers and bon appetite!
