I had the pleasure of visiting the Goose Island Brewery and flagship brew pub in August of 2009. That visit was a result of nearly a decade of enjoying their diverse and creative lineup. While working as a bartender, I convinced the establishment's owner to allow me to create a beer menu offering 100 craft and import beers. I included several selections from Goose Island on that menu and still have tremendous admiration for the Chicago-based brewery. Goose Island employees are in Youngstown for The Big Tap In Beer Festival this Saturday at The Covelli Center. They will be pouring their beer and talking to valley beer lovers tonight (Wednesday) at Vintage Estates in Boardman. The visit is part of VE's "Beer Week" celebration leading up to Saturday's event.
Here's a look at Goose Island's current lineup of beers:
312 Urban Wheat: Flavorful and refreshing spring / summer beer.
Honkers Ale: The flagship beer. Great Balance of hops and malt.
India Pale Ale: More hoppy than Honkers. Very crisp and dry.
Summertime: German style Kolsch Ale. Light and easy drinking. (May)
Nut Brown Ale: Great malty richness with a nutty finish.
Goose Island has a great web site with detailed information on each of these beers as well as the numerous Vintage Ales, some Bourbon Barrel Stouts and Rye, and other special offerings. The site also includes some really cool and creative food / beer pairings. Check them out at:
