I poured the 2010 Rutherford Ranch Sauvignon Blanc at www.myvalleyvino.com" rel="nofollow">Valley Vino's March 31st tasting at The Youngstown Club, which featured classic Napa Valley wineries. When  I think of Napa Valley whites, Sauvignon Blanc comes to the front of my mind alongside Chardonnay.  There is no better varietal (type of wine) to enjoy on the hots days soon to come than Sauvignon Blanc.  Its crisp and refreshing characteristics and tropical / citrus fruit flavors seem extra appealing on a balmy summer day or warm evening.  Apparently the guests at the www.myvalleyvino.com" rel="nofollow">Valley Vino tasting agreed, as the 2010 Rutherford Ranch Sauvignon Blanc finished as the top selling wine of the evening.

The wine is comprised of 100% Sauvignon Blanc grapes from Napa.  It is aged exclusively in stainless steel tanks. Many winemakers believe this allows the true fruit flavors of the grape come through to the forefront.  This style of wine making has taken firm hold among those responsible for producing some of Napa's best whites.  In this case the strategy of stainless steel aging seemed to pay off quite well!

Flavors of lemon. lime, kiwi, and grapefruit dance on the palate with the first sip.  The freshness of the fruit flavors is distinct and is the crowning achievement of the wine.  The floral and grassy sensations you get on the nose and palate (yes, you can taste grass and flowers in a wine) complement the fruit beautifully.  The well structured and complex integration of the fruit and flora provide an enticing and well-balanced flavor profile and inviting finish.

The 2010 Rutherford Ranch Sauvignon Blanc pairs up well with a variety of lighter fare including most salads, seafood (especially scallops and shrimp), and even a citrus grilled chicken breast.  It is equally delightful when enjoyed with fresh fruit while sitting on your patio or deck after a long summer day. The wine is distributed sate-wide by Vintage Wines and is widely available at most independent wine shops and many area restaurants.  If your local shop doesn't carry it, simply ask them to order it for you and it should arrive in less than a week.  Cheers and Bon Appetite!
