Burger, Brackets and Victors

After 68 teams competed, the NCAA recently crowned a basketball Champion, and now the BurgerGuyz are looking to crown our inaugural Champion in the Cheeseburger Madness Challenge.

We started with the Meat 16, picking 16 of the top burger joints in Mahoning and Trumbull County, and after upsets, the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat -- we are down to the Final Four: The Mahoning County championship has Magic Tree Pub & Grill (Boardman) squaring off against YOLO Grill & Taproom (Austintown) on April 11, and the Trumbull County championship pits Just Fred’s (Liberty) against Fire Grill BBQ (Girard) on April 12.

The Cheeseburger Madness Finals will be held April 14, so bookmark BurgerGuyz Facebook page and http://www.vindy.com/weblogs/burgers" target="_blank">www.vindy.com/weblogs/burgers so you can find out who sank that 50-foot buzzer beater, or who dunked themselves a Championship..

We asked some of our local celebrities: Fast Freddie on CD 93, Warren Mayor Doug Franklin, Niles Centenarian Frank Simeone, members of the Vindicator staff, a couple members from the Air Force base, and Fat n Furious members Tommy Christmas and Chuck Kountz.
By having outside judges, all the burgers were on an even grading scale. Judges did not know who was battling who until a winner was chosen.
And now we are heading for the home stretch, where one Champion will be crowned. Thank you to all the worthy competitors: Bogey’s, Crickets, Royal Oaks, O’Donold’s, Krakatoa, Coaches, Lake Tavern, Amen Corner, High Pointe, Sunrise Inn, New Manhattan and Shakers.
