Their menu describes medium-rare as a as being cooked ‘perfectly’ with a ‘slightly crispy outside, and a juicy, pink center’. Although they offer a full menu, gourmet burgers are obviously the focus at Bar 145.http://burgerguyz.files.wordpress.com/2013/12/pelc-64_3178.jpg?w=969" alt="" width="485" height="321">
A popular option is the ‘stack your own burger’, and several of the group opted for this. Order forms and pencils are in a cup on the table, and http://burgerguyz.files.wordpress.com/2013/12/pelc-64_3184.jpg?w=870" alt="" width="261" height="202">you check off what you want. You start with your meat (burger for us, but you can also choose chicken, turkey breast, salmon cake, or black bean patty), then your bread, cheese, toppings (3 included), optional ‘premium toppings’ (additional cost for each), and sauces/spreads (2 included). For an additional $2 or $3, sides such as pomme frites or onion petals can be added. I’ve made my http://burgerguyz.files.wordpress.com/2013/12/pelc-64_3181.jpg?w=969" alt="" width="243" height="162">own before, but decided to order the ‘Simpleton Burger’ from the menu. It consisted of a burger on an onion roll topped with local cream cheese, house cured bacon, sautéed cremini mushrooms, and roasted sweet onions. Yes, by ‘house cured bacon’, I mean that this place makes their own bacon! The burger was very good- the patty was well seasoned and well cooked, and the creamy http://burgerguyz.files.wordpress.com/2013/12/pelc-64_3182.jpg?w=969" alt="" width="243" height="162">cheese with the salty bacon made for great toppings. While the burger came with the pomme frites, I substituted for the fried green beans. They were fresh green beans with a tempura batter and a spicy/sweet Asian style sauce drizzled on top. Very good!

But, as far as the beef and the toppings, everyone was impressed. If you’re in the Kent area, head over to Acorn Alley and grab yourself a good burger at Bar 145.
