The Youngstown Sports Grille, (Boardman), lured the Mahoning Valley Burger Review Board (MVBRB) in with the temptation of sports on every TV, a cold beer, and a tasty burger -- and we were pleasantly surprised by what we found. Everywhere we looked, there was something involving sports.

The Youngstown Sports Grille is a sports bar and restaurant showcasing every level of athletics -- especially the local teams. That is evident by those local team’s banners, news articles, jerseys and helmets adorning the walls. You can come in any time and find almost any sport on the different TVs located throughout the bar or restaurant areas.

Our hostess, Jullia Matesevac, led us through the memorabilia covered walls, and that’s where we started our dining experience. After we admired the impressive memorabilia collection, we perused the menu and got down to business -- the burgers.

We chose from a selection of burgers ranging from their number one selling burger, the JD BBQ extra Bacon Cheeseburger (covered in Jack Daniels Teriyaki sauce, grilled onions, bacon, cheddar cheese), to the 3 Cheese Burger (2 slices of bacon, choice of 3 cheeses, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle), the Dick Mango Burger (chili con queso, jack and cheddar cheese, ranch dressing, hot sauce), the Fire and Ice Burger (pregi peppers, garlic ranch dressing, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle), and a Shroom & Swiss Burger.

We all agreed the diverse toppings did not take away anything from the taste of the nicely-seasoned 100% Angus steak burgers. The burgers are served on a grilled kaiser roll that held up well throughout the meal.

"It was a good burger with a very good flavor," said Coach (Hank Kover).

Two of us chose the sweet potato fries, which were thick, crispy and enjoyable with their own side of cinnamon butter to dip them in. Greg said "the sweet potato fries were very tasty and good sized, not the shoestring kind most places serve."

We all agreed the burgers were more pricey than your average bar burger, with this being the most expensive burger we have reviewed to date. The cheapest burger on the menu is $9.29. While the burgers are full of flavor and seasoned well, you leave wanting more.

If you are looking for a great burger and a place to watch almost any sporting event, then the Youngstown Sports Grille has a TV and an excellent burger waiting for you. You can either go to the bar side or have a sit down meal on the restaurant side.
