Music was the theme this month for the Mahoning Valley Burger Review Board (MVBRB) when the guys stopped in for a burger at Mojo’s Pub & Grill (Austintown).
You can see manager Johnny Marino’s fondness for music as soon as you walk in the restaurant, from the pictures on the walls of famous musicians to the shirts (of musicians) the waitresses wear. The menu even had a touch of rock and roll, with a Door’s-style logo and pictures of guitars all over it.
Mojo’s has been going strong since 2004, and recently moved down Mahoning Avenue to a much larger building which accommodates their patrons better.
We entered the packed and very family-friendly eatery and made our way to the table. We went on a Wednesday, which fortunately is build-your-own burger night. After being pleasantly greeted by our waitress Loke Kalima, who helped make our dining experience very pleasurable, we found the burger section of the menu and made our choices.

There were seven burgers to choose from, as well as the build-your-own burger special. The special was $6.29, with the other burgers ranging from $7.29 to $11.99. Mojo’s even has a music reference to some of the burgers. The burgers they offer are: a regular Hamburger, a Cheeseburger, a Bacon Cheeseburger, a Swiss & Mushroom Burger, a Morrison BBQ Burger (bacon, Jack cheese and BBQ sauce), a Blue Cheese Burger (blue cheese and bacon), and a monster End Burger (2 half-pound patties, 2 slices of American cheese, 2 slices of Swiss cheese and 4 strips of bacon). All the burgers are half pound and are served with fresh lettuce, tomato, a slice of pickle and a generous portion of very tasty, crispy shoestring fries.. The burgers were very juicy and we feared the buns would get saturated and fall apart. But the buns and burgers held up well throughout the meal. The burgers were seasoned just right and you enjoyed every bite.
Scott said, “It was a very juicy burger with a good flavor.”
Marino stopped by after our meal and said a challenge burger is in the works, but it is just in the beginning stages. It will be called the Wall, and will have three 1/2 pound patties, 6 strips of bacon, pulled pork, lettuce, tomato and pickle. We will be back when it hits the menu.
Scott added that “Mojo’s has a fun atmosphere.”
After you finish your meal you can sit at the upstairs bar, have a beer and watch a game on the big screen; Or you can take a walk to the Ohio State themed downstairs bar, where you can dance, shoot some pool or just sit back with a drink and watch some television. Either way you will have a great time.
Stop in for a great burger and stay for the fun -- and just follow the Mojo’s motto...Good food, Good spirits, Good times.
