Maybe I just don't get it .

 Come on-how long ago was it that the Mahoning County Criminal Justice System was deemed "DYSFUNCTIONAL "  by Atty Vince Nathan. Vince Nathan was appointed "special master" by US Federal Judge David Dowd( A "special master" is appointed by a court to carry out some sort of action on its behalf). Yeah, but who's Vince Nathan think he is? Well: Vincent M. Nathan is a professor in the Department of Criminal Justice at The University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio. Since 1994, Mr. Nathan has worked extensively in the field of corrections and correctional reform. He was a special master for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio in a case involving conditions in the Mahoning County Jail in Youngstown, Ohio, and has been retained as an expert witness in cases involving prison or jail conditions in New York State, New York City, Ohio, and Indiana.

Mr. Nathan has served as a special master for federal and state courts in a number of cases, including statewide litigation concerning the Texas Department of Corrections and the New Mexico Department of Corrections and correctional reform litigation in Georgia and Michigan. Mr. Nathan has also been an expert witness in corrections litigation in Rhode Island, Washington State, California, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Maryland. Many of the cases in which Mr. Nathan has been involved have addressed issues relating to crowding. Several have involved conditions at so-called "supermax" prisons.

Mr. Nathan has been a consultant for several correctional departments in the United States. He was also a consultant to the United States Department of Justice in several CRIPA investigations, including those relating to the Shelby County Jail in Memphis, Tennessee, and the Nassau County Jail in Nassau County, New York, and in the development of core detention standards for local detention facilities under contract with the Immigration & Naturalization Service, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, or the United States Marshal Service-QUALIFIED, WOULDN'T YOU SAY??

I guess our 'system' wears the 'dysfuntional' label  like the SoYo(south y-town)pistol-packers wear their guns and  t-shirts that proclaim: " Youngstown,Ohio-Come Packing Heavy, or Dont Come  At ALL" , or as the Jim Traficant lovers  wear their "Welcome Home Jimbo" t-shirts.  If they wern't proud of being dysfuntional, they'd do something about it .

A few observations:

Weren't there two taxes passed on the backs of  Y-town Police and Fire? - The Garbage Tax and the Income Tax ?

How many law enforcers and firefighters were hired  as a result of those taxes?

-and now that's crime's rampant- we'll take law enforcer numbers down?

 The first quarterly meeting of the Mahoning County Corrections Planning Board was held a couple of weeks ago. Noticably absent (other than the media-of course) was the Sheriff,County Prosecutor and City Police Chief = DYSFUNCTIONAL. 

 Dedicated Law Enforcers quickly becoming  dejected after witnessing apathy from leadership. Too many 'desk-job divisions while street cops risk their lives. Side jobs trumping street work. Numbers manipulated via an all too effective  spin-cycle. Revolving door so-called justice=offenders back on the street before the law enforcers that risked their lives are done with the paperwork. Recently 4 murder acquittals ,4 dismissals and 9 ammended. Are you kidding- 70+% of those in county jail are AWAITING trial ???

 So,here I go again: WHERE'S THE OUTRAGE?? WHERE'S THE LEADERSHIP ??

 MAYBE IT'S ME !!!

Maybe I really do have it all wrong- maybe it's not JUST the thugs that are proud of being deemed HIGH-CRIME, A MURDER CAPITAL, PACK HEAVY community---maybe others are proud too. Maybe along side the other t-shirts :

 ONE MAN'S KIDNAPPING IS ANOTHER MAN'S MISCELLANEOUS CRIMINAL INCIDENT

    THEY'RE ALL 1019'S !!!!!

 IF YOU DON'T HEAR GUNFIRE-YOU'RE NOT IN MY-TOWN: Y-TOWN !

 OR MAYBE THEY'RE NOT REALLY PROUD-MAYBE ALL THESE SO-CALLED LEADERS CARE ABOUT IS THEIR PAYCHECK CASHING EVERY TWO WEEKS...
