Final inspections have been and will continue to be done over the next few weeks at the Canfield-Niles Road hotel, including a proposal to resolve a plumbing dispute. Owner Sebastian Rucci said he plans to open in a few weeks, as he completes furnishings on the third and fourth floors and finishes a 320-square-foot jacuzzi to hold 40 people on the first floor.

Wednesday Crash Kills Two
An elderly couple died instantly in a late morning crash in Austintown Thursday. The Ohio State Highway Patrol identified the victims as Irven B. Wilhelm, 78, of Deerfield, and Evelyn L. Wilhelm, 76, of Deerfield, in a Chevy pickup truck. The driver of the Penske truck was Larry L. Lawrence, 67, of Greenville, Pa.

The president of Youngstown’s NAACP branch says city schools Superintendent Connie Hathorn and the deputy superintendent lack the ability to improve district academics and should be replaced. “The superintendent is fostering an illusion of progress,” said George Freeman Jr., president of the Youngstown branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, at a news conference Monday. “The district has never been higher than a ‘D.’”
