Hundley sentenced to death
Lance Hundley told a judge he plans to appeal his death sentence for the November 2015 beating and strangulation death of Erika Huff. With little fanfare Tuesday, Judge Maureen Sweeney upheld a jury’s death-penalty recommendation in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.
Bistro 1907 Opens
Bistro 1907 opened today in the new DoubleTree by Hilton hotel downtown Youngstown. The new restaurant is named in honor of the year the historic Stambaugh Building, in which it is located, was built.
Warren teen pianist
Darrius Simmons, a 17-year-old junior at Warren G. Harding High School has captured attention across the country with his ability as a classical pianist, appeared on NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt Wednesday, May 15. A crew from NBC filmed it at Harding High on Monday.
Ralph Infante Sentenced to 10 years
Before sentencing former Niles Mayor Ralph Infante to 10 years in prison Friday on 22 convictions, visiting Judge Patricia Cosgrove said Infante’s crimes hurt that city and “gutted” the public’s trust in its officials. “What you have done is taken the public trust and just gutted it, just gutted it for your own personal, financial gain,” she said with Infante standing before her in an orange Trumbull County jail jumpsuit. She called his misdeeds “two decades of public corruption.”
Sen Joe Schiavoni
YOUNGSTOWN — State Sen. Joe Schiavoni and his running mate officially conceded the gubernatorial race tonight. At this hour, he and Stephanie Dodd trail Richard Cordray by a 311,175 to 43,319 margin. "We knew this campaign was a long shot from the start, but that never bothered us, because we had plans and policies that would make life better for the families we’ve met throughout the state," Schiavoni of Boardman, D-33, said, adding "we just didn’t have the resources this time around to let [voters] know it was out there. The statement said "Joe will continue to work hard in the Ohio Senate, and Stephanie will do the same on the State Board of Education."
Infante Verdict
WARREN In the first local criminal trial of a major Trumbull County public official in a decade, Ralph Infante was convicted of 22 criminal charges, including engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity throughout his 24 years as Niles mayor. Infante looked straight ahead late Monday and did not seem to react as as long string of guilty verdicts were read for tampering with records — guilty on 13 of 16. The charge carries a penalty of up to three years in prison on each count.
