In 1992, the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim selected Pittsburgh Penguins forward Troy Loney in the NHL expansion draft. Going from a two-time Stanley Cup champion to captain of an expansion team in the Sunbelt was one of the bigger challenges of Loney’s 15-year NHL career. Thursday, Loney accepted another hockey challenge as he and his wife, Aafke, became equal partners with Bruce Zoldan in owning the five-year-old USHL franchise that has struggled to draw fans and has no assured future past April.

Fire Investigator Ron Stauffer said the owner, Indira Periyasamy, voluntarily relinquished her operating license to the department of commerce. Police yanked a man wanted on drug warrants out of a furnace duct Thursday after a standoff of more than two hours at a South Side home. Phillip Johnson, no age given, of Youngstown, was taken into custody by U.S. marshals after the standoff at the 147 E. Marion Ave. home. Members of the Mahoning Valley Crisis Response Team, along with marshals and Youngstown police, were serving a search warrant at the home as part of a drug investigation and were at the home about 4 p.m., said Youngstown police Detective Sgt. John Elberty, who heads up the CRT unit.
