More than 1,500 clergy, religious, seminarians, and laymen attending the funeral Mass for Bishop Emmet Michael Walsh Thursday in St. Columba Cathedral hear the Most Rev. Paul F. Tanner, D.D., of Washington, D.C., general secretary of the U.S. Catholic Conference of Bishops, deliver the eulogy. Bishop Tanner said Bishop Walsh, who died last Saturday, was years ahead of his time in concerted efforts by American bishops, a principle that became an important product of the Vatican II Council.
