VALLEY FOUNDERS MEMORIAL - A bicentennial memorial of white Vermont granite will pay tribute to Youngstown's first settlers. Taking part in ground-breaking ceremonies at Spring Common Bridge and Federal Plaza this morning were: (left to right) Walter Damon, architect and co-chairman for the memorial: Mrs. Walter Schaff, vice chairman of the Bicentennial Commission; Edward J. Hulme, director of the Bicentennial Commission; Prosecuting Atty. Vicent Gilmartin, representing Mahoning County; John Logue, of the Builders Association of Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania, co-chairman for the memorial; Ted M. Kramer, business agent of Carpenters Local 171, and Louis Rich, business agent for Cement Masons Local 179. It is being constructed under the Joint Apprenticeship Program.
