Pool drained permanently: Untied Excavating Co. crews use a backhoe to fill in the Pemberton Park Pool on Youngstown's South Side Thursday. The pool, built in 1939, was closed by the Park and Recreation Commission last fall after neighbors complained of fights and rowdiness at the recreational area. Crews also will destroy pool buildings to discourage vandals and avoid accidents.

Mrs. Tom Pemberton, widow of former park superintendent, holds a special plaque presented to her while the new Tom Pemberton plate, to officially change the new name of Shady Run Field, is hown by Arnold Stambaugh at last night's dedication. Left to right are Les Donnell, who was master of ceremonies; Ed Finamore, park superintendent, Mrs. Tom Pemberton, Frank Kline, director of the park board;Arnold Stambaugh, who presented the plaque as a representative of the Stove Leaguers; Leo Mason of the park board; and Edgar Samuels, who directed the Stove league plaque fund.

The color guard, representing all branches of the service, presents the colors at the opening of the dedication of Tom Pemberton Park Sunday night as the National Amateur Baseball Federation Tournament got underway here. The team at right is the Dayton Wiedeman-Buds. Youngstown Home Club defeated Dayton, 6-5, in 10 innings in the NABF game at Pemberton Park last night. The park was formerly Shady Run Field.
